Finding a job as a Fresh Graduate

Team Prosple

When asked if you have work experience, talk about experiences where you have gained the required skills (even if they are not paid work!) and/or experiences where you have gained tangential skills and then make a case that you will be able to learn the required skills quickly and effectively.

- Decide what you want to do
Take some time to learn about the possibilities of what you can do and figure out what you want to do in life. Understand what motivates you and do what may make you feel excited about your life.

- Do a lot of internships and live projects
Do as many internships and live projects during your studies, as you can. Such opportunities offer a window to understand what the work structures in the real-world look like. These opportunities can help justify your skillset when you apply for a job.

- Work on your communication skills
Ensuring that you communicate well about how you're the right person for a job is important. It is essential that you can communicate your thoughts and ideas well. Email writing, body language, presentation skills, active listening, etc. are some important set of things to work on.

- Network
Attend conferences, webinars, bootcamps, events, etc. Connect with industry professionals and your alumni. Ask them questions about their job. Try to learn their perspectives and point-of-views. Ask for a job referral, if required.

- Find (and apply to) relevant jobs for you
Visit the websites of companies that work in your domain of interest and regularly keep an eye on their vacancies. Alternatively, visit job boards that list job opportunities relevant to fresh grads and enable you to find a suitable role for you.

- Personalise your job application
Be specific about how you can fit into the open role and how your academic and other experience (co-curricular, internships, live projects, academic projects, etc.) justifies your skillset as per the requirements of the job.
